Street Shopping in Amritsar

Amritsar a land of fields where you can find different crops growing in different seasons of the year. Amritsar is a city in Punjab that is known for its vibrant culture, calm environment and not to forget its jolly people. It holds important place in the heart of people belonging to Sikhism. 

City offers lots of things right from important religious centres, street food, historical monuments and street shopping. While travelling to this city you can immerse yourself in the rich and charming culture of Punjabi community. 

Over the years, city has made a name for itself as a delightful shopping destination. A range of shawls, footwear, dress materials, carpets and traditional clothing can be found in their hustling bazaar that always tempts its visitors and locality.

In my recent trip I shopped a lot from the markets of Amritsar. I had lot of fun exploring different fabrics, qualities, trends and most importantly had fun in Bargaining too!

Here is a list of places where you can shop the authentic Punjabi clothing and accessories.

Lahori Gate Market-

If budget friendly shopping is in your mind then head to this bustling clothes market. It is an important landmark in Amritsar. You will find lots of shops and showrooms in the market selling juttis, shawls, ladies wear, cotton Patiala suit, dress materials, phulkari and much more. Your bargaining skills test begins from here, if you good at bargaining this market is nothing less than a delight for you.

Katra Jaimal Singh Bazaar

This bazaar is an extraordinary place as compared to others for phulkari shopping in Amritsar. It is well known for offering its guests some astounding and wide range of phulkari dresses. You will find designs of all original Phulkaris in this market. The place is also known for handicrafts items; hence do not forget to look at them too.

Hall Bazaar

Hall Bazaar is the oldest market in this city and its rustic charm attracts visitors more towards itself. The market is on the way to Golden Temple and can been seen buzzing with tourists all around the year. Entrance of the market welcomes you with a giant gate that features Mughal style architecture.

 You can shop electronic gadgets, antique lamps, garments, fancy juttis and more importantly Punjabi suit material is a best thing to buy from here.

Guru Bazaar-

Another Heritage market is Guru Bazaar. Do hop to this market for some delightful shopping experience. It is a favourite spot for ladies since they can find best and authentic gold and silver jewellery here. There are around 2500 shops in this market that are famous for jewellery but also for earthen lamps, diyas, and lots of religious items.

Shastri Market

Market is famous for various textile producers. This place is ideal in the city to purchase various apparels. From cotton, manufactured rayon and fleece to various other materials. This commercial has a great deal to offer to its customers, the place is swarmed with people as it is considered as an important place for shopping in the city.

Lawerence road-

If you wish to shop and have good food at same time, Lawernce road is a good choice. The market here as number of things to offer right from clothes, jewellery, footwears, wollen wears, carpets and much more. The street also offers some good and authentic café where you can try delicious Punjabi dishes.

Kapda Bazaar

This bazaar is famous for traditional clothes. Colourful Patiala salwaar with Phulkari duptta is must to buy here. You can also find lots of other make accessories too in this market. Women love to visit this market again and again!

Old City Bazaar

The old city is distinctively beautiful and should be on your bucket list while travelling to Amritsar. After exploring the narrow lanes of the city and exploring its old age havellis, head to this market to explore some city vibes including modern shopping complex and famous restaurant chains.

The colourful city of Amritsar offers different market as per its visitor’s choice. Each market is unique and special in its own way and missing out any one among them can lead you to great loss of your enjoyment while exploring city.
