10 most annoying things you can do as a tourist while travelling next time…

10 most annoying things

2023, travelling is more than a necessity, it’s a therapy and while undergoing this therapy you might fall into the trap of doing the 10 most annoying things which are against the norms of the place you’re travelling to.

Travelling helps one learn new things about himself, it somewhere leads to a broadening of the mind. But you shouldn’t forget to respect the place more than enjoying the bliss of it. Hence next time whenever you think of planning a trip ensure that you avoid the 10 most annoying things and research abouIn t the place well. Their cultural norms, language, lifestyle, etiquette and having the basic knowledge about the destination is a must!

Scroll down for some 10 most annoying (and yes, pretty offensive) things that you might do unintentionally which you definitely want to avoid on your next trip.

Expecting everyone to speak English

Yes, English is the most prominent and common language, but that doesn’t mean you expect everyone to speak the language. Especially when it comes to travelling, certain regions are very particular and expecting them to speak in your comfortable language can turn out to be one of the 10 most annoying things. In such a scenario carry a guidebook with you or instead be techno-savvy and use Google translate.

Ignoring Cultural Customs

Some things are better to be unsaid and yet one needs to say it when one doesn’t respect them and show the signs of the 10 most annoying things. Social etiquettes are the most basic and yet important that needs to be paid attention to when it comes to travelling. No matter wherever you travel domestically or internationally, knowing about the place is important. Familiarising yourself with local customs such as greeting, your behaviour and body language might piss people off and I wouldn’t want my readers to do it.

Dressing Inappropriately

Definitely shopping and looking good are one of the key factors that give us the urge to travel. But this doesn’t mean that you disrespect the dressing sense of the place you are travelling to. In a simple sense, packing your clothes depending on the location and attraction you are going to visit and don’t attract unavoidable attention becomes a part of the 10 most annoying things that you end up with unintentionally.

Not leaving hotels or resorts

Don’t travel if you don’t want to travel, i.e. if you are undertaking a trip just to relax in your hotel or resort property then what’s the use of spending money. Yes, I agree sometimes you need a trip to relax and unwind, but with relaxing and enjoying the quality time you can think of exploring the vicinity of your hotel and never know, you may even get surprised.

Assuming things will be open all the time

Travel to respect, travel to horizon your knowledge and not to create a nuisance in the place. Every tourist destination has its own way of working and treating the tourists. Hence things at your place might remain till midnight but this doesn’t mean every place follows the same criteria. You need to adhere to a timeline and post working hours, disturbing the shops to allow you to fulfil your demand can turn out to be the 10 most annoying things which you might end up doing unintentionally.

Disrespecting the monument or attraction:

Monuments and attractions are the true charms of a destination, visiting and disrespecting them nothing can be more annoying than this. Doing something stupid just for a photo is not the manner one would expect you to portray. Imagine someone carving their loved one’s name on India Gate, How would you feel? Exactly the same thing applies when you travel to some other place.

Having way too much luggage.

Packing is good, over-packing is not recommended at any point of time. Carrying too much luggage with you, will only put you in restriction, hence pack light and travel light. Carrying too much luggage can put you in trouble, so take things which you actually want and not which are extras for you.

Asking for Food Modification

Food tastes and smells good when the chef puts all their effort into bringing out creativity. When you travel, food is something that adds spice to your experience. Visiting a local restaurant and asking for food modification is something that hosts definitely don’t expect from you. If you have something you can politely give your opinion and instead appreciate their efforts.

Sticking to Travel plan:

Your travel isn’t a successful journey unless and until you do something going out of track. True fun is when you do something offbeat, there is no fun sticking to a plan and when you follow the plan, sometimes things can be too overwhelming and annoying for you. So, try going local and unexpected!

Hoping that this blog has enlightened your mind for a bit and you will try to avoid these practices on your next trip.

  1. A very timely reminder to all who plan to travel.
    Nicely articulated ‘Ritika’.

I would like to add 2 more annoying parameters to make it a dozen :

    11. A sad mind – Wash of the sadness before you pick your bags.
    12. A frowning face: Believe me this effect spreads at the speed of the light and can immediately be absorbed by your friends/ family members/ co-travellers spoiling the bon voyage for all.

So before you climb onto the set of wheels dust out the cobwebs from the corners of your mind and wear a broad smile on the face.
