Diwali & its Snacks: किस्सों का पिटारा

Diwali Snacks

No festival is complete without its food and beloved snacks, so how can one of the most awaited festivals of lights be celebrated without the sweet yet spicy snacks? I bet each one of us has other stories related to Diwali and the snacks associated with it.

First of all, can you tell that it’s Diwali already? I mean I’m not able to gulp it that this year is going to end within almost a month. Alas, one more year has come to an end but lots of ups and downs, highs and lows.

Indeed Diwali has always been the sign of new beginnings from travel to starting a new work, indulging in a new profession and so much more. Basically an auspicious occasion to make yourself feel happy with whatever you desire.

During Diwali, I’m the one who cannot keep my hands away from the sweets, namkeen, and the spicy yet delicious quick bites. I’m more of a namkeen girl, tell me in the comments what type of food you prefer more during the festival.

Like every year there is a tradition in the house that my grandma would bring Besan (chickpea flour)  from the market and she would start baking it morning and evening to turn it into mouth-watering Besan ke Ladoo. Not just this, Mom and Grandma prepared my other favorite snack, the Gujiyas. I helped them in bringing the materials and setting up the place for them.

Before I forget, never asked nor knew but Gujiya in my house are prepared by sitting on the floor in our balcony. Surely it’s a great view to watch as well as adore! These are just a glimpse of a lot more stories and facts that are funny and unforgettable. Not just me but no doubt you would also have many such stories that bring you and your family during this festival.

With just a week in your hand, you still have time to gear yourself with mind-blowing cuisines. Do prepare your traditional cuisine, but how about going a little extra and trying various other food delicacies prepared during Diwali?

Oh yes, for all the foodies out there, this blog is for you. So prepare the utmost delicious cuisine and do not forget to savor yourself with those cuisines.

Jalebi

Our festival cuisine revolves around Jalebi, I mean you can forget anything but not this sweet dish. The hot and crispy taste so good and is worth eating with cold ice cream! Surely a heavenly delight.

Gulab Jamun

These brown sweet balls are worth savoring because why not when they are associated with spreading love and joy. This dish needs to be placed at the number one position while looking out for festive delight.

Gujiya

My favorite Gujiya is the perfect snack made especially during Diwali and Holi. This delicacy is made using either suji or maida, which is stuffed with a mixture of sweetened khoa and dried fruits. I mean why do I have to wait for a whole week to eat it, I can’t believe it.

Chiroti

Chirote also known as Chiroti is a delicacy predominantly served in Maharashtra and former Bombay State areas in Karnataka. Prepared from the dough of wheat it is healthy and at the same time worth craving.

Besan Ladoo

I love Ladoos. Besan Ladoo is one of the best things my grandma ever made. Stuffed with dry fruits, this dish is everyone’s favorite and one couldn’t resist/staying away from this. Grandma prepares this every year and always lets me have the first bit every time, love to be her quality checker every year.

Adhi rasam

Adhirasam is a traditional South Indian sweet that represents the importance of adhering to the values of life. Made especially during Diwali, this dish will surely attract lots of guests and loved ones to your house because the taste and smell is phenomenal. Can a picture of my neighbour’s aunt making some and offering me this year. Yes, my neighbors are South Indians and I’m spoiled by their authentic dishes

Chakli

Only the vicious circle that I love is Chakli. Love the crunchiness and the wholesome taste of it. Chakli is a symbol of the wheel of life, and its delicious crunch is a favorite during Diwali. There are various types of chakali available so do try to prepare one this year.

Coconut Ladoo

One of the healthy sweet dishes of Diwali will swirl in your heart. I know no sweet dish is healthy, but among other Coconut Ladoo is the one which can be understood to be much better and healthier. Try making one and savor it, you will surely feel good.

There are many more snacks and dishes that make our Diwali special! This was just a gest, my agenda was to motivate you that the festive season is just a week away and you must gear up yourself by preparing various cuisines and letting Goddess Laxmi shower your home and life with lots of happiness and positivity!

Let me know in the comments what is your favorite dish for Diwali. As I have expressed mine, now waiting for you to share some happy fun stories!

Till then Happy Sundaying.
