Sunset, seashore & nature- Just an evening at Malabar Hills

Malabar Hill!

Sunday is the best day of the week. It always brings a sense of lazing around and relaxation. For me, Sunday is all about heading out, exploring, and immersing myself in laid-back moments. Being an employee, all you get is one day to live to the fullest, and why miss out on it?

Recently on one of the Sundays, in the urge to find something new, and experience something different I got to see the other side of Mumbai! The views, the areas and definitely the environment are so peaceful that you can’t resist yourself. But to fall in love right away.

Being a sunset girl, you would always find me capturing sunsets and the guilty pleasure is that every third day my phone gives me notifications that my photo gallery is running out of space. Sunsets are beautiful and I just can’t resist snapping them. Definitely, 101 reasons why you need to visit this scenic corner.

It’s Sunday today and if you are sitting idle being a lazy person just enjoying your social media? Then this blog is your sign to head out in the city and experience the unexplored with my go-to guide. Spend an evening that makes you feel like you accomplish an evening getting to know your city more closely.

Imagine standing on a hill, surrounded by a quiet, green haven, with breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea stretching before you. That’s Malabar Hill for you—one of Mumbai’s most scenic and prestigious neighbourhoods. Add to it the refreshing charm of Priyadarshini Park, and you have a perfect city escape right in the heart of Mumbai!
But what makes these places special? Let’s dive in!

Why is Malabar Hill Famous?

Malabar Hill isn’t just about stunning views; it’s a blend of history, heritage, and high society. It’s home to Mumbai’s elite, including the Chief Minister’s bungalow, hanging gardens, and ancient temples. But beyond its luxurious reputation, this hill has stories that add to its charm.

A Mythological Connection: The Legend of Banganga

Did you know that Malabar Hill has a connection to the epic Ramayana? According to legend, when Lord Rama was wandering in search of Goddess Sita, his brother Lakshmana shot an arrow into the ground, creating the Banganga Tank—a freshwater spring that still flows today! This ancient water tank, surrounded by temples and historic structures, is a must-visit spot for history buffs.

The Iconic Hanging Gardens

If you’ve ever seen postcard-perfect pictures of Mumbai’s Marine Drive from above, chances are they were taken from the Hanging Gardens at Malabar Hill. Built over a water reservoir in 1881, these terraced gardens offer a lush green retreat with an unbeatable sunset view over the Arabian Sea.

Priyadarshini Park: A Green Paradise by the Sea

Right at the base of Malabar Hill, hugging the coastline, lies Priyadarshini Park (PDP). It’s a 20-acre open space where fitness enthusiasts, joggers, and families come together. What makes it unique? It’s one of the few parks in Mumbai that offers an uninterrupted sea view while you enjoy your morning run!

Things to Do at Priyadarshini Park

Go for a Sunrise Walk – The golden hues of the rising sun over the sea make early mornings magical here.
Jog or Workout – With a well-maintained jogging track, an open gym, and tennis courts, this park is a fitness lover’s dream.
Relax & Unwind – Find a quiet bench, watch the waves crash, and let the sea breeze take away your stress.
Sunset Magic – Evenings here are just as mesmerizing as mornings. Watching the sun dip into the horizon is an experience in itself.

Best Time to Visit

Early Morning or Sunset – For the best views and a peaceful vibe, visit either at sunrise or sunset. I went during Sunset

A Perfect Escape in the City

Malabar Hill and Priyadarshini Park are where Mumbai slows down. Whether you’re a traveler looking for scenic spots, a history buff tracing legends, or a local seeking a moment of calm, these places welcome you with open arms.

So, next time you want to experience Mumbai beyond its bustling streets, take a walk up Malabar Hill, breathe in the fresh sea air at Priyadarshini Park, and let the city’s quieter, more beautiful side surprise you!

Till then Happy Sundaying!
